Won't Let Go

On a recent trek down Indian River and eventually to Indian Falls, I zoomed in on these leaves, waiting to see if they would succomb to the rushing flow of the river. After a few moments, I lost interest and moved on to capture more stuck leaves and whatever else I could find.
I was glad to get out this day. It hasn't been a colourful Autumn in my opinion. I was, however, able to get out with my Dad on Thanksgiving weekend for a trip out to an elk farm and other stops along the way.

In The Field

Here I am as seen through the lens of a good friend of mine, Bert Reket. I met Bert and his wife Lynn at the first Owen Sound Camera Club meeting that I attended in January of 2005. Since then we've been sharing our ideas and inspiration for photography whenever our schedules allow. Great shot Bert!

INXS License Plate

G'day. I just wanted to post this image of our new license plates honouring our favourite band, INXS. The 448 is a number that is significant to the singer of INXS, Canadian born Jason (JD) Fortune. The whole story behind the number is really not known, but the best I can gather is that when things were right in his life, the number kept popping up.

Tree Frog

Funny thing happened today. My wife and I were just a stones throw away from home on our way back from a local nursery where we purchased a small tree when she cried out, "Oh! A frog!!" Trying not to hit it with the truck, I slowed and took a careful look on the street to see if I could spot it. Then I thought it was strange that there would be a frog on the street in our neighbourhood.

I looked over at my wife to see her staring at the dashboard. So, I followed her gaze, and there it was. A tiny tree frog sitting right between the glass and the vent. I wasn't long getting parked in the driveway where my wife jumped out to get something to put it on. She rushed out of the garage with a newspaper, which the little guy jumped onto right away. It was a short trip from the truck to the flower bed where I snapped a few quick shots of it before it went hiding under a Dwarf Alberta Spruce.

After a little research I found this little guy to be a Drab Tree Frog (smilisca sordida). It's a native of Costa Rica, Panama, Honduras, Columbia , and Nicaragua. What the heck it's doing here... I don't know. Oh I guess they're found all over the place now.

Lady's Slipper

It's Father's Day! Today my Dad shared a thirty year old secret with me. It may not be much of a secret, but it was certainly something I knew nothing about. What is it you ask? It's the location of a beautiful patch of Showy Lady's Slipper Orchids (Cypripedium reginae). I've never seen these flowers in the wild, or in real life for that matter. Okay, while I'm at it, I've never even seen orchids of any kind growing in the wild. I guess I don't get out much.
My Dad used to do a lot of coon hunting... a LOT. He knows this area like the back of his hand. It was about thirty years ago while hunting that he spotted them, and earlier this spring, he told me he'd take me out for a photo oppotunity. A great opportunity it was. There were dozens of them. The mosquitoes kept our stay to a brief half hour, but I plan on returning next year.

Columbine

During a recent hike on the Bruce Trail, we came across some Columbine growing out of a boulder the size of a small cottage. I have never seen them in the wild before... I guess I don't get out enough. This particular hike was near Cape Croker on the Niagara Escarpment.

February Storm

Here's a view from the Jubilee Bridge in Owen Sound looking west. The storm we had in early February was disastrous for a lot of trees in the area, as well as leaving some folks without power for days. However, it did provide for some great winter shots.

I'm back...

I've restarted my blog... I think it's a good way to give more "exposure" to my work. If you have found this page, don't hesitate to leave me a comment or post for whatever comes to your mind. I'll be adding a few photos once in a while and would love to hear a critique on them.
